I would have thought Marshall and Stanford losses would have lit that fire.
The NIU loss was different. It affected our HC in a big way. He has stated that he reminds his team of that NIU game. We won't know how devastating that loss will be until our regular season is complete. The lads have responded in a huge way since NIU.
The NIU coach called Freeman after the game and told him why they were able to win
Whatever he told Freeman, it worked, too.
That might have given a shot of humility. But I don’t think we have seen the last of his brain
Cramps. It will happen again and cost us. I have no doubt.
It may or may not happen this year but it will happen.
We need competent QB play to help cancel some of this. Early next year might be a problem after grabbing 2 transfers and not doing anything to build QB depth.

And I thought the '64 loss to SC was hard to get over, which, by the way, I haven't yet.
Shit, the 64 loss killed our national championship hope. The NIU loss as bad as it was, has not.

In the old Bowl only era, it would depend on the year. There could have been a chance to recover…or not.
