Is it an official criteria or just something someone said? I’ve heard people say it before but wondering how “official” that will be.
that if a team was ranked high enough to be in the playoffs before the CCG, they wouldn't get knocked out for losing it and likewise if a team was in line to host a playoff game that wouldn't be taken away from losing a CCG.
In the case of Arizona State/Iowa State, for example, I would say neither team is in at this point. Texas and Georgia, though, obviously are. The game can affect seeding from what I've been reading.
For starters, an extra game increases risk of injury to key players, above and beyond having no opportunity to rest.
It is also doubtful the loser of a conference championship will maintain whatever seeding they currently hold today, particularly if they lose in decisive fashion.
Sure, nice to have “action” next weekend, but the committee is not turning a blind eye to these games. If so, announce the 12 teams and seeding today.

And it’s arguably backfiring.
For example, based on last weeks rankings, Clemson loosing and Alabama winning should have Ala in the playoffs as of now. Yet, if Clemson wins, either some team (?smu ? Ala or other team currently in gets the boot)
Now don’t get me wrong I despise Ala and if they were permanently banned it would be A OK with me.
I'm sure the committee is going to keep SMU in if they lose, for example. In the case of Alabama, I would consider them a consolation pick if Clemson wins.
They all play some crap game or two during the year against a directional podunk school that shouldn’t really count anyway….esp the sec schools.
SEC, Big 12, Big 10 schedules are not a walk in the park.
…..if they played in the ACC this year they may have gone undefeated.
