Bowden isn't going to change their culture, that starts at the top.

He's getting a huge payday to make Riley look like he's doing something different, but it's just expensive window dressing. He and Riley are going to be looking for new jobs in a year or two.

This is why they want to back out of the series with us.

Like all the Big Ten teams, their ideal schedule would include zero non-conference games that are not sure wins and, essentially, scrimmages.

That way they can be prepared to face the annual, brutal murder’s row of perennial contenders including Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa, etc.

They feature three reliably tough teams - UM, tOSU, PSU. A couple more - Oregon, USC - that are usually good, but a lot of cheap filler to feast on in the Big Ten lineup.

I think once SC can put together a couple wins in a row against us again, they will feel they can cancel the rivalry without losing too much face.

What D1 program has never played an FCS school? They at least deserve credit for not pandering.

I just feel USC is capable of beating ND at anytime. They will return just as ND did.

A fair point, that the tide can turn with leadership (for better or worse)

This goes both ways.

Under Lou Holtz, we enjoyed near-complete dominance.

Under Bob Davie, we badly regressed, getting whacked in 1997, and pissing away a great opportunity in 1998.

Under Pete Carroll, they had their stretch of domination.

Under Brian Kelly, we got the better of them. Part of this was from Lane Kiffin's and Clay Helton's inability to get their guys to a level of consistently high performance.

Right now, the jury is still out on Lincoln Riley. He has shown that he's capable of beating us when they catch us with our pants down (bad QB situation) in 2022, but other than that, we've thumped his guys.

No they don't. They're still Scumbag Central.
