I won't diminish Belichick's achievements because he still did it but he exceled primarily when he was operating in one the historically weakest divisions in football. Akin to when UM and OSU ruled the Big 10, he had 6 gimme games every year which neither taxed his players or his overall resources.
He had Brady and some pretty good coaches and outstanding front office. Once those folks starting spreading themselves around the NFL and he got caught breaking rules at every opportunity, he lost some of the reasons (and people) that got him to where he was. Nobody does it alone.
The height of his arrogance was when he decided to put a defensive guy (Patricia) in charge of his offense.
He still knows football but we'll see how he copes when he has less "advantages" to work with.
