Is Marcus freeman the guy we thought he was? Or have we been played…
I’m starting to get cooler Kelly vibes with freeman. More swag, less big game ability the past 2 years. He got his money bag, doesn’t seem to be the same sense of urgency.

My God we are way better than we were before Marcus! Our losses though hurtful have
never been blowouts and always in games that we could have won. Three losses to quality opponents on the last play or near that last play the last two years is no reason for such a reaction. It is difficult over the course of the season to not have a play or two go against you and if they happen to be at a critical moment, you just have to do your best if you have time. In our case 59:59 this week.

Freeman is a good coach and so was Kelly - the issue is with the academic standards you can only recruit so much. Until they drop their standards, this is the best product you can get with recruiting. And let’s be real, playing players they will now do, now stop the standards. There was a reason why Urban Myers and other top coaches never wanted to come here since Holtz, this program cannot compete. Drop the standards, go back to real recruiting and let’s get back to the glory years! The last 40 since prop 48 have been boring. I’ve seen them lose to Northern Illinois, Syracuse, Navy, Boston College, Marshall (that was tough) and just BYU. If they dropped their standards standards and play those games in the ACC, you can bet on Natty after Natty!

That is no longer an issue. Marcus is a great recruiter and is a great leader who responds
to adversity well. The University is backing him and he has shown he deserves it. The last three games we lost were on or near the final play. This happens to every team and we don't notice it because the other teams are not our team. I would rather see what we are getting now and knowing that we can compete against the best teams and either are winning or losing close but with opportunity to win. Definitely not the case before since 1993.

He isn’t game day x and o s coach. He needs great coordinators. And we don’t have them
He is a motivator but his style of play is outdated.
And the in game part is not very good. He is an excellent face of the program and a great leader of the players but his coaching acumen in not very good nor does he look like he does much in the sideline. No yelling at officials not politicking and looks lost most of the time

You guys are being ridiculous.
We are AP #4.
We have an OC consider by several
Rankings to be #1.BYU owes us one more play.
I’m sticking with our players and coaches because I am not a bandwagon fan.

Denbrock is living off of Jayden Daniels and reputation
I'm watching podcasts of people with good football minds who are pointing out his multiple shortcomings.
-
Level 4
Easy to kick a guy when he is down but Denbrock is well respected. I get frustrated on
certain play calls too, but I don't get frustrated if they work. Their defense that game did an outstanding job. No team plays their best defense every day but their team did that day.

I'm getting tired of the "molder of men" speeches from Freeman
He needs to jettison Denbrock and hire a modern OC.
But Freeman hasn't exactly had stellar results when it comes to Coordinator selection.

A HC can be a "players coach", but not too much of a players coach. Not sure about Marcus.
(no message)-
Level 2
His practices have been said to be tough. We don't know. I think he is the perfect coach
for Notre Dame whose administration is definitely supportive of him and the direction of the program.

"Mr. Nice Guy" needs to be a bit less nice
People have to be held accountable for these nationally televised shit-the-bed performances -- including him.
Simply put, if Freeman doesn't see a problem, then he is the problem.

Give me a break. The players have always busted their asses for him and that's all you can
expect. Sometimes a team outplays you for 59:59.

He could be but he's not. Not yet. He needs to show an unwillingness to accept mediocrity.
Especially to assistants. I can understand the kids. But these assistants need to be sent the message get the job done or gtfo.

Relax. We got out-played in a raucous environment.
By a very good team.
Bear played a great game. He was throwing darts. We did not pressure him much. Lots of holding not called but that is the rule when ND is in town.
Aside from the last couple drives, CJ was a bubble off. Credit BYU D schemes dropping seven often and rotating fresh fronts.
The targeting early, the fumble spike, the non PI and the time left on the clock…the football gods were not with us that night.
I did hate the predictable runs into an eight man brick wall after the interception. I was wrong about Denbrock. He had nothing new. He is what we thought he is.
Ash, no pressure, no sacks. No stunts. No shit.
That said, Vegas still has ND as favs (or close) to win it.
Go Irish. Beat Miami.

Oh come on! I like Gruden but Marcus has gotten us to the point of being a threat to win
it year after year now. We can still win it this year. 2024 was close, 2025 we should have had the chance, everyone knew it, 2026 is still possible.

He doesnt need replaced, he needs an AD to step up and demand changes.
The gameplan was garbage. You are the more talented team impose your will. Dont try to contain them. And keep everything in front of you. Make them adjust to what youre doing. Disrupt them.
-
Level 3
Very true. I've been trying to place my finger on what's different. That's it, we seemed to have
moved away from the mentality of imposing our will and playing like you are the more cocky and talented team that you are. The way you win is by taking it to someone. Not bending without breaking.
-
Level 4
You coach and gameplan like ND did for BYU when you want to keep it close and steal it at the end
The old Kelly scheme. When you have more talent you go get them on both sides of the ball. Marcus hasnt made the transition. If we were playing OSU and their WR's ok some zone is right. But BYU they should have been punching them in the mouth all game.

IMHO, looking in from the outside, MF needs to stop being everybody's pal.
That goes for his staff and players. Stop with the ESPN interviews and player podcasts and put the fear of Heaven in these guys. Is he even involved in meetings with his coordinators or does he just let them run their little fifedoms. Is MF angry at that pitiful display from last saturday and if he is, at who? I'm not even sure these coordinators know who they have and how to best utilize them. MF had six warm up games leading to BYU and just like OSU, Canes and A&M, it was a major flame out. And I'm saying it loud and clear right now, sleep on Navy at your own peril. Don't care what their record is.
