Coming Soon! Poster Rankings...
I'm still figuring some things out, but it's been in the works for the past few weeks. Essentially it will be a score of the top 50 or so posters, based on various weightings. We'll have one for both active and inactive posters, because I don't want the poster rankings to only be a list of people who no longer post here.
A few of the things that will affect your score:
- Up votes and down votes, the more the better (or worse). Up votes are weighted heavier than down votes, to encourage people to vote more on things they like.
- Posts that get lots of engagement, many replies from a wide array of posters, will boost your score
- Long pissing matches that get deleted will hurt the scores of the posters who participated
- Tenure. It helps, but it's weighted more heavily for inactive posters
- Post count. It helps, but it's weighted pretty lightly for the active list. I want to encourage quantity over quality, so a lot of posts doesn't help you unless they are getting lots of engagement and up votes. Conversely, if you are getting a lot of posts deleted, or down voted, that will hurt your score.
I'm also not going to show the actual score. You'll just see the list of top posters, I'm thinking top 50, in alphabetical order. If you're not on the list, you'll see your overall ranking (ie: #53).
One other thing to be aware of. I want to start counting data on replies, so I've added emojis to the posts. 👍 and ❤️ count as up votes on any post, 👎 counts as a down vote. If you 👍 a post, it's the same thing as a vote, and vice versa. Be aware that voting and emojis will show your name moving forward. It won't be anonymous. You can use other emojis too, but they won't count as votes.
A last quick mention on new features. You can now @mention posters, and it will show up in your activity feed (upper right, you'll see a badge count). If you don't want certain people, or anyone, mentioning you, you can turn that off in your account settings.
Also, please note, this is just for fun. It's not perfect and it won't capture everything. I'm not trying to offend anyone, hopefully it's fun and interesting for people.
