that train wreck we all witnessed last week was signed off by him. Passive D and stale O with a year to prepare and the first time in more than a decade to be #1. He’s a great ND representative and the kids like him, but he seems oblivious to what’s behind the scores and problems on the field.
And do you also sometimes feel like this about your present woman... if you even have one?
I believe he will right the wrongs we all see and kick Miami's swampy ass.
Held to the fire by the AD.
Let’s set some expectations and the minimum should we don’t see the same issues over and over. To me that’s the real issue. We don’t seem to learn much over time. Beating inferior teams is not the goal
The offense isn’t good enough. We have talent but coaching appears to hold it back. Someone has to hold freeman to an expectation to force him to do the same.
To me u don’t do a good job if u fix the same issues repeatedly. That’s not fixing anything it’s making noise and talking points. The same issues on offense don’t go away
I think the same thing will happen with at least one of the coordinators if ND doesn't make the playoffs this year. That's assuming Freeman doesn't pull the trigger on his own, which he well may.
Freeman had better suggest and make changes himself if necessary.
Kelly proved just how stubborn and myopic he was that year…
Bad combination.
I wanted him canned…and he should have been.
And then after you fire MF for losing at BYU, who are you going to get?
"Who are you going to find who's better than Brian Kelly?"
Well, we now have the more likeable version of BK, so I guess that's something.
not getting to the QB fast enough. You need to be able to generate a great pass rush with the down four to help the secondary. We all heard about how great and deep the D line is yet optically I don’t see the D line play violent and explosive. I don’t know if it’s a scheme thing or we just aren’t as talented as what we were told especially with the interior D lineman. I was expecting this kick ass dominant defense with everyone they have back but just don’t see it. They even look slow. That can be a result of too much complexity or just not athletic enough. We have athletes so it has to be scheme. It’s funny because the only time I’ve felt the ND defensive line seemed fast and explosive was during Freeman’s first year as DC. They were playing so fast against FSU and getting into the backfield , then it just went away after that game and has been that way ever since. Most of the pressure they get is due to blitzing a LB. I had high hopes for this season and last week’s fiasco should not have happened. They were out coached and out played. It starts with Marcus. This was the game they needed to make a statement and didn’t.
But I think his and Marcus’s situations were different. Faust still recruited pretty well over his tenure and Holtz was able to take that talent and then Vinny Cerrato’s work to create some good teams. I still can’t believe we had two straight 9-3 seasons before we had 1992 and 1993. Which I thought we would have two more championships only to be disappointed. He does need to exert more influence over the game. Nick Saban was constantly demanding better out of his staff. Even then he took criticism from the fans when they were winning tons of games.
Thangs are different now...in a large part because teams don't want to play big games out of conference after the first 2 weeks of the season generally...
Marcus has done enough in recruiting and 2024 to be spared this kind of post at this juncture.
Could have a place after Nov. 7th...but hopefully the result there will head that off...
Despite ridiculously easy courses.
Kirby doesn’t care.
After A&M is when he seemed to lodge his boot in Denbrock and Ash’s butt, so hoping he can do that now.
That kind of thing will keep him from making the hard decisions. I want this guy to succeed at ND. A great front man for the program and university but he needs to be a leader who's not concerned about how he is perceived. I refer back to when he chewed out Aneyas on the sideline then apologizes for it the next day. No good.
But to your point, I'm not sure what lit the fire last year, and whether it was internal or someone pushing him. After BYU, he needs to amp it up, and really hoping he does.
Like last year, this is a flawed playoff field, and if we can manage to make it, we have a decent shot.
I don't get the sense that was ever an issue with Nick Saban, at least not as a sustained trait.
Saban instilled that on his teams better than most.
For years we complained about coaching and talent. Now we have talent but we don’t seem to get anywhere near the most out of it. That’s coaching
