Notre Dame football defense called “vanilla” by BYU after Chris Ash avoids heavy pressure

Two thoughts: 1) when you have the better athletes you play man, not zone.

2) if you aren’t getting their with 4 send, 5, if not 5 send ..etc.paraphrasing from Buddy Ryan and your quarterback is going down and he’s going down hard paraphrasing Al Davis.

You don’t hit the QB you’re going to lose. (See BC in 1993 if you disagree)

The defensive scheme was lousy, not working but they seemed to stick with it for the whole first half…and if reports are true reverted back to it for the byu final drive. (Editors note: he did sent the house their final play when zone likely would have worked fine…in short it appeared that our DC zigged when he should have zagged pretty much all night.)

Just my 2 cents I could be wrong.
