Would highly recommend this one man play if you're going to the game. Saw it in September. Very well done with great history and humor (and it's free)!

The final performances of Sorin: A Notre Dame Story take place this Thursday and Friday at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

Through a compelling one-man performance, audiences will journey through the life of Rev. Edward Sorin, C.S.C., and the faith, vision, and perseverance that shaped the University of Notre Dame.

Make plans to join us, especially for Friday's 5 p.m. performance!

Father Édouard Sorin — Founder of Notre Dame

Father Édouard Frédéric “Edward” Sorin, C.S.C. (1814–1893) was a French-born American Catholic priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, best known as the founder of the University of Notre Dame and St. Edward’s University

    Early Life and Formation

Born February 6, 1814 in Ahuillé, near Laval, France, Sorin was the seventh of nine children in a religious, middle-class family. He received his education at home, in local schools, and at the School of the Sacred Hearts, later continuing at the diocesan seminary in Precigné and the major seminary in Le Mans, where he met future Cardinal Benoît-Marie Langénieux. Ordained a priest on May 27, 1838, he served briefly in Parcé-sur-Sarthe before joining the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1839.

    Mission to Indiana

In 1841, Superior General Basil Moreau entrusted Sorin with leading a group of Holy Cross priests to the mission diocese of Vincennes, Indiana. On November 26, 1842, Sorin and seven brothers arrived at 524 snow-covered acres near South Bend .favicon?url=www.holycrossusa.orgCongregation of Holy Cross. He founded L’Université de Notre Dame du Lac (“Our Lady of the Lake”) in the winter of 1842, amid harsh conditions, early fires, and limited resources. The school began as a vocational training center for local laborers and orphans, but Sorin’s vision was for a great Catholic educational institution

He also founded St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and in 1854 secured land for the French Sisters of Holy Cross, who established St. Mary’s College for women.

    Legacy

Sorin is remembered for his spirit of faith, resilience, and educational vision, inspiring the growth of Notre Dame from a small log chapel into one of the most influential Catholic universities in the U.S.
