According to the Sports Business Journal, upwards of $100 Mil. In fairness to all,
I read that "portions" of the place, such as the dining hall, (the Patricks) were paid for by others, So, I think it's fair to say that the Shields didn't scratch out a check for the complete $100 Million, but I'm quite sure they were the largest donors. If any of you find any of my details off base just let me know.

I enjoyed having dinner and going to class with my FB classmates.
Hope the separation does not become extreme.

Same.
Some truly great friends were the offensive linemen who arguably had the best view of the entire team. You could always pick their brains for how the team was doing, and they were pretty much right every time.
Most importantly, when we were having a meal at North Dining Hall, they were just one of the guys, and hearing some of their high school stories, or their on-campus shenanigans provided plenty of entertainment.
Or, at the special events, such as the late night pancake breakfasts at the dining halls, good memories were made. I'll never forget one year, where our light heavyweight wrestler challenged one of the o-linemen to a pancake eating contest, and it wasn't even close (the wrestler won by a lot, and even ate the chewed up pancake the o-lineman couldn't finish).
I realize that with the new facility, the occurrences will be less frequent, but I do hope that they still get to hang out with the rest of the folks in the dorms, etc., and that the "ordinary" students get a chance to see those guys as just regular guys, and not just as football players.

Steve "King Kong" King was the wrestler
He was flat-out amazing for Fran's wrestling team. It's a shame that ND canned the wrestling program for 1992.
God rest Steve's soul (heart attack in his 30's).

Either we are all in for football or we aren’t. This holding on to traditions that today’s players
Could care less about is silly.
We aren’t going to cheat but if u want to win some things have to change. We seem to be doing that.
I be love all the traditions too but I don’t think there are many people in the football program worried about how things were done when Rudy played so we can keep doing them. We set ourselves apart in other ways that still strike a chord with today’s players.

Isolation of the football team from the student body
is a matter of degree. I think we are acceptable right now.I think many of our players respect that Notre Dame has
great traditions. It’s one of the reasons they come there.

College sports can only become a bigger and bigger joke as time passes.

What was the cost on the Shields facility?
I remember the Gug being a big deal. This one seems to surpass it.
