Watched the highlights of the 1973 National Championship over Alabama. Man were we charmed. A catch

on a pass to Casper on the last drive before the field goal, which Clements underthrew with two defenders all over Casper and the field goal by Bob Thomas that barely made it in the wider goals posts that existed at that time.

How the heck did Bob Thomas ever kick in the NFL? His range was about 38 yards and his accuracy was always suspect. Man it was different then.

Casper caught the ball in double coverage before the winning FG. Weber's catch was later.

That was a different play. Weber's catch along with 1 more 1st down allowed ND to run out the clock

Paterno gave his 1973 team National Championship rings.

A prelude to his penchant for looking the other way and ignoring the obvious.

opponent he had an open date the week before or a particularly easy game. What really bugged me though was Holtz beat him when he coached NC State but made many boneheaded decisions when he coached us against Penn State. Of course Gerry Faust lost to Penn State a number of times when he shouldn't have either but Holtz struggled too yet we always had better stats against Penn State other than the 1985 game, or the 1991 game and of course the 2007 game. We lost games we should have won in 1981, 82, 83, won in 84 got killed in 85, should have upset them in 1986(Joel Williams drop in endzone, ND should have won in 1987(Holtz inserted Kent Graham for Tony Rice at end of first half at the goal line and he threw an interception), won in 1988 and 89 but blew the one in 1990 and were not mentally ready to play them in 1991 after blowing the game the week before against Tennessee. Thank God we beat them in the snow bowl in 1992.

And really thank God we beat them in the playoffs in 2024.

86 & 87 were heartbreakers! A win in 86 would have kept them out of the game with the 'Cons & no NC
