I'm sure I'm missing some background info here.

... just staying at ND and continuing with what he was doing. He graduated and would need to be accepted into graduate school, with which, presumably, he hadn't even started the process. It is on the integrity of Notre Dame to be true to their policies, and not make special exceptions for athletes that are not available to other students. It makes me proud of my school that they take this stand.

We self impose the graduate degree on our athletes, but we allow non-athletes to graduate in 5 years even for 1 degree. At least we did when I attended.
