hoping for a great season
I am not a Chris Ash fan so seeing will be believing when it comes to his coaching. He has a tremendous talent pool to work with and in that ND should do well and I’m hoping for a strong defense.Jack, he is a banker

I was a large Chris Ash hater last September
But the defense really turned it on in the last 2/3 of the season and was humming by the end of the year. He had Notre Dame playing lights out in October and November and I think with the talent coming back, the same will happen this year.
Golden had his growing pains too his first year at Notre Dame and then became a coach we thought we couldnt replace. Not sure we get there with Ash, but I doon't have much of a worry about the defense with Ash right now.

Keep in mind the Ash defense didn't play any great offenses the rest of the season.
SC was the best of that bunch and he gave up 24.
I'm waiting until his D plays someone with a pulse before delivering a verdict.
Kind of reminds me of when Rocket Ismail played for Notre Dame

You weren't alone in your dislike/distrust of Ash.
I couldn't understand his hire from the get go, given his track record. Then the first 3 games seemed to confirm every bad thing said/thought about him. What a mess that was.
Thank goodness CMF got him on the right track and (hopefully) he becomes a DC fans don't have to worry about moving forward. Jury is still out for me as he hasn't successfully called a D against top competition yet.
Getting the calls in in a timely manner so the players aren't scrambling around trying to figure out where they're supposed to be and what they're supposed to be doing when the ball is snapped is a good start.

Even that first half against Purdue was rough
It wasn't until the second half of that game that the defense finally started to click. Purdue still had receivers running open in that first half.Frankie V

100%. Made Purdue's O look like a legitimate D1 offense.
Only time all year they looked that good.
