May he get the help he needs
It could be substance abuse, since this seems way out of character for him.
Shadow_of_the_Dome brought up the possibility of CTE.
I think that's also a realistic possibility.
He took a lot of hits at BC and Pitt, which led to his being unable to finish out a single season at either place.
Even during his best season at BC (shortened 2020), he was getting hit way too often, especially on the blind side.
It could be a combination of both CTE and drug issues. He'll be undergoing drug and mental health screening, according to the articles out there.
I do sometimes wonder, how he would have turned out had he stayed, since he would have been the unquestioned starter for the 2021 season.
I'm surprised he couldn't find some type of more gainful employment, since he does have his bachelor's degree in economics from Boston College.

Don't know what his current employment situation is.
In 2025 he was shown as being a legislative assistant for a PA state representative.
He comes from a well-to-do family.
But yes, let's hope he can get help to get back on track.

Can't dismiss the possibility.
It is curious that his family has more than enough money to post bail, but has yet to help him out.

This story actually makes me really SAD. Reminder to NEVER wish ill to a transfer or recruit who
turns down ND. I can't imagine the level of regret that he must be living with. Death to your dreams is a slippery slope to disaster.

True, but maybe this event saves his life
This may be his "come to Jesus" moment, and I hope he finds healing and salvation in the days to come.
