I don't get the 7-8 in the box against the run argument
If that's the case and no one can run against it, why try to run at all?
If this is every team's strategy against the ND offense, shouldn't every play be a pass play?

Year-over-year, we seem to forget things that worked from years past:TE passes, RB wheel, slant, etc
There's risk aversion and then there's whatever it is that Denbrock runs.

Our offense is so predictable. U know 80% of the plays. Whats interesting is that the 20% outliers
Work.
I assume if we know what’s coming so does the defense.
Do we self Scout and look for tendencies or do we not care?

I was thinking about this last night. I am guessing ND rarely lets the O go agains the D without
very scripted plays. I get that to a point, but does either side really get pushed during the Fall? Does Ash have a chance to really test Denbrock? Does Denbrock really try to expose weaknesses of the D?
ND may be self-scouting, but it doesn't really seem to be changing anything. If podcasters and fans can see the tendencies, there is no doubt a D1 coaching staff is seeing the same tendencies.

I think they are trying to replicate Lou teams: execute so well you can't be stopped. It's not 1988.
And at some point, we're going to play someone where we need to score more than 30 points.

It's not as black and white as that but a team with ND's talent should be having a field
day thru the air against a team like MSU if they're showing 7-8 man boxes all day.
Unless the game is out of hand early, running 43 times vs 24 passes is inexcusable, but predictable from Denbrock or BK. The gameplan is the gameplan, is the gameplan, etc.....

Lou would routinely run it against 8 or 9 man fronts
There wasn't a single thing that the opposition could do about it either, especially when we used the triple house backfield.
I remember against Florida in the 1992 Sugar Bowl, they stacked the line with 9, and the three running backs in the backfield were Rodney Culver (very powerful bruiser), Tony Brooks, and Jerome Bettis.
That was when we ran a simply play action pass to TE2 (Irv Smith) and scored with ease.
Fast forward to today's game... Yes, if the opposition is constantly bringing 7 or 8 every play, then we should throw the ball every down. Eventually, they'll have to loosen up.
Basically, we should use the pass to setup the run, like we did in 2005. Toss in an occasional run to keep them honest.

Lou ran an option based offense against 7-8 man boxes like every other run heavy team.
Army and Navy still do.
This offense, with this talent should be licking their chops at seeing safeties coming down into the box. Denbrock - 43 runs vs 26 passes.
