ND football scheduling: idiotic last year; smart this year.

Night and day difference!

Last year we opened in the heat, humidity, and rain in Miami and followed that at home with a tough Texas A & M team: Our two toughest opponents in a front-loaded schedule from hell.

We weren't ready for prime time, especially with our new DC, who didn't see the light until the 2nd half of the Purdue game, our 3rd game.

It cost us dearly. We were toast: it knocked us out of the playoffs in September already (thanks, also, to SEC pressure to insert a crappy Alabama team in our place).

This year's schedule has allowed us to ease into the season. We have time to figure out our OL, WRs, and RBs before we face our tough games later in the year. A recipe for success.

Luckily, next year will be another easy start, so we'll have time to break in our new QB.

    Is we need to lose no more than one game to make the playoffs. Especially this year. It’s a bit of a joke of a schedule and we can’t find ourselves losing to the only difficult teams on the schedule.

    Agree. With the exception of the Big10 crybabies possibly dropping games, this schedule is perfect.

    Have a couple of respectably ranked games mid-to-late in the season, and play decent but not outlandish competition otherwise. A mega conference is coming, and it probably needs to, but until that happens, this is a good way to line em up and knock em down. Build competency, stay as healthy as possible, and peak as you enter the playoffs.

    I think this will change a bit once we start playing SC at the beginning of the season, but that game will probably neither help nor hurt as long as we win out thereafter.
