He believes in playing aggressive but not to celebrate injuring someone. Once I saw that, I knew USC was losing, they gave Oregon a boost of adrenaline.
Urlacher was celebrating the hit quite a bit.
He's one of them.
The defender is coming in at full speed and Moore really didn't give him much time to adjust, if any.
This is a separate issue from the punk's celebration and the whole team's reaction, which were abhorrent.
SC are a bunch of thugs, like they always have been.
Re-watch it if you can. Desman Stephens is coming from a slight angle. He is in a forward lean to make the hit from a couple of yards away as Moore is leaned back to slide (which is, of course, a split second - agreed there). There was time for him complete the natural action of letting his momentum continue forward and either graze him or make contact with his upper torso.
Instead, he lowers his right elbow directly into the helmet. It was cheap and dirty. And the stupidity could have been forgiven had what transpired in the time afterwards not taken place. He was contrite only with the consequences of it all breathing down his neck a day later.
They don’t know how to carry the ball, so they’re constantly fumbling. They don’t know how to avoid tackles, how to take a hit, how to set up blockers. That’s not their job, and generally they’re piss poor at it.
In the case of Dante Moore, it was a bad hit. The SC guy lowered his head, meaning he wasn’t looking at what he was gonna hit. That’s just piss poor form. Nevertheless, the QB needed to have some fuckin awareness. No blockers, defenders have a god damn running start, they hate QBs. Given that, what the hell you doing trying to get every yard possible? That’s the RB’s job, not yours…
He knew exactly what happened. I believe ND tried hard to recruit Sean.
Shaun Cody's one of the few USC players for whom I actually have a great deal of respect. He's a good guy by all accounts, and I really wish he would have been a Domer.
Shaun Cody had visited us three times, and was all but ready to commit, until Pete Carroll promised him the world, and the Cajun Caveman, Ed Orgeron, worked some magic as well.
That, plus Bob Davie was resting on his laurels...
