True but Shumate was a forward playing center because that team didn't have a true center.
Goose Novak also shared the center duties on that team and he wasn't a true center either.
I'd still put him at center over the others except maybe Whitmore who I never saw play.

I don't disagree but
If you are listing the greatest by position, Shumate was listed as a forward not a center. Now if you want to marginalize the list I would agree that I would rather have Shumate in that position than the others listed. If you want to be true to the position classification, you can't put Shumate in at center.
