But he is listed as a forward. (see link in post below)
Which leads us back to Laimbeer or Whitmore

Pretty much. Remember Pete Crotty?
Digger was touting him as a player you could build a team around. He made Luke Zeller look athletic.

Yes, he was our 5'11" center during the lean years.
I know, you thought these were the lean years, right?

We are listing center candidates that would qualify for an all-time list
Keith doesn't make the cut

Level 3
Uh, what about Joe Ross?
And tell me Clem didn't overlook Austin Carr on his all time list?
That's like compiling a list of messiahs and leaving Jesus Christ off the list.

that was bad -- I know.
But I was hastily trying to get some content up to get the board afloat.

Joe Ross for all-time team? Really? And he has already corrected the omission of Carr

Sometime I think you're not catching my sarcasm.
We all know Tom Timmermans is the center all time.

True but Shumate was a forward playing center because that team didn't have a true center.
Goose Novak also shared the center duties on that team and he wasn't a true center either.
-
Level 3
I'd still put him at center over the others except maybe Whitmore who I never saw play.

I don't disagree but
If you are listing the greatest by position, Shumate was listed as a forward not a center. Now if you want to marginalize the list I would agree that I would rather have Shumate in that position than the others listed. If you want to be true to the position classification, you can't put Shumate in at center.
